Interviews – A-

The Thalassa MixesEP

Interview with aesmADaevaWhats the name of the new cd andwhen it came out?

The Thalassa Mixes was releasedSept 2008Who is behind everything aesmADaeva?

Currently it is just Me, Lori Lewis, ChrisQuinn, and a good friend ours Albert Born is playingdrums.

Is there such a thing as a fundamental ideawhich hides itself behind aesmA Daeva ?

Ipersonally believe reinventing your self is important, but I always want tokeep the symphonic, and doom elements in Aesma Daeva.
How,where and when it came to the founding of aesmA Daeva?
Thestarted writing music like this and released some of it in 96. The firstofficial release as A.D. came in 99 with our release on accession records ….Germany…..

Yourband have been around how long? How satisfied are you with the results achievedso far and what would you change if it could turn back time?
Almost10 years since the release on accession records. I am happy with the resultsand where I am at now with music. I suppose I could have taken a safer roadwith writing music, but I think it would have turned into work for ….me…..
My onlyreal regret is that I started performing live concerts way to late.
Whatshould we know from the bands history from aesmA Daeva?

TheHistory of Aesma Daeva is a long one, with a small drought in the middle. (4years with no new music or album) That was a period where I was making lots ofinternal changes with thegroup.

Why did you name the bandaesmA Daeva? Is there behind  a deeper meaning?

At the time I was into groups such as fields ofthe Nephalim. Aesma Daeva is a member of the Nephalim.
What was for any of you everhad the key experience even want to make music?

WhenI was very young I would write music, but it was not correct notation. I wouldwrite out a block diagram of my ideas on paper. I found an old cassette tape Imade many years ago where I spliced different sections of different songs fromdifferent bands and put them together. – That was probably my first experiencewith creating music.
What itfeels like is important in todays (Gothic) music landscape image and the visualappearance of a band? aesmA Daeva comply with any clothes properly?

Ido my best to not comply with the look of other bands. I had 12 years ofCatholic school and I had a specific dress code. When I am told what I supposedto where for a concert or to be on stage I feel like I and everyone with me isconforming and joining the army. I want to give a good show and have a goodlook but I do not want to conform to a look.
Whomdo you see as the typical audience? There is a certain audience that heraddress with your music want?

In the beginning wehad a gothic industrial audience. Now I think we have an audience from manydifferent genre’s the key is that it is the people from that audience who are opento new things.
There is”the difference” between the German public and other audiencesabroad?

Yes the Germans get morevacation. ;) – Honestly I do not know. There are only a few fans I am incontact with from Germany, and really Adrian Hates is probably the only Germanyindividual I have gotten to know.
Is there astandard drawer for the music of aesmA Daeva? It describes how people yourmusic that you never have heard?
I have recentlystarted to describe A.D. like this for people who do not know anything aboutsymphonic metal, doom metal, industrial metal etc.”Enyabeing carried to safety by Metallica”

Howimportant is it for aesmA Daeva (musical) success?

Successis being able to do what you want to do. I am able to do that.

Would you perhaps also (musically) can bend, thereby possibly to be successful, bold label deal to get in and VIVA &MTV love the long day to be present?

Anything ispossible. I believe Sting did not become success full until he was in his mid30’s.

What difficulties have you as a bandcurrently the most to fight? aesmA Daeva or running everything as it should be run?
The difficulties : Most of the difficulties thatoccur with in a band are the same things that happen in many relationships. Sometimesthere is a break up and then you get back together and the sex (playing aconcert) is better than ever.
Howis this publication at your fans arrived? What reaction there was from the(scene – Specialist) press?

LOVE or HATE.Which I am very happy with.

How long haveyou at the completion of the latest CD worked? Where was recorded and produced?
The latest album was completed in March of 2008. Theoriginal instrumentation Drums, Guitars, Bass where all recorded at Rax Trax byNeil Kernon. The vocals, and Bawu were recorded in my homestudio. To get in the production of someone behindthe controls supported, or was all alone in your hands?

ForThalassa I did all of the mixing/remixingWhatrequirements must provide it personally to a good song?

Agood song or a great song? – I suppose it varies with what the vision for thefinal product is. For Tisza’s Child I had no interest in getting to a chorusquickly etc. However other songs I took a very differentapproach.

When her new songscomposed, as it requires a certain inner mood or a specialatmosphere?

For Thalassa I think it could onlyhappen during the fall and winter months. There are way tomany distractions during the summer. I love the cold times of year.It helps me sit and concentrateTo aplace where you can best respond to the letter of new songs and texts focus?

Whatdraws her themes in your lyrics and what to let you in the lyrics inspire?

Wellall of the songs for Thalassa were based off of poems Michael had written. Thegarden I long for is based off a painting by VanGough.
Lately I have been focused on writing songsbased off of 1984. However that will probably be released under a differentband name.I guess during the writing of every album I havea different interest that I pursue musically, and lyrically. I should say inthe past I combined a lot of old texts into new songs. Now I contribute to theLyrics.

Another thing is I am not certain all of the words inA.D. are “Lyrics” I think some of the songs are closer to Art Song(Schubert) because the words are poems set to music not lyrics.
Howimportant are you your texts? Take it in the music of aesmA Daeva a big place,or you see the texts ore than accessory to themusic?

At my heart I am a composer more than asong writer. However I do not want a text with out substance. I have started tofocus more and more on the text. I may view myself as a songwriter and not as acomposer in the future.

What can youtell us about the activities of live aesmA Daeva report? It often gets theopportunity to play live?

We have a lot ofopportunities to play live. However, from a promotion aspect I have found thata good day on myspace can be better than an ok show.
Howcan you get a gig aesmA Daeva imagine? What is it with you on the stage from?

I imagine different sets for each album.

Itis also important for aesmA Daeva on the Internet to be represented?
Yesthe internet community is what keeps us going – when we began we only haddistribution in Europe. The distributing of our music by people is what got ourname spread to other countries. What do you want toin the near future (musically) with aesmA Daevaachieve?

I as a composer am not concerned aboutmusic that is timely as much as I am interested in having an album that istimeless. I want to produce music that can become popular many years after itis released.2008 What was your best experience asa musician?

Making changes.

Were there for you 2008 less pleasingevents?
Yes much less. Their were a lot of ?’s onwhat was going to happen when the year was beginning. Earls healthetc. You can because at a certain date to sit onthe new songs to work, or is this entirely depends on your mood?

Ido better under deadlines. Otherwise starting to work on an album or a song isa very overwhelming experience for me.

What youactually go through your head around, if you makemusic?
In A.D. there are a lot of variables, so Iam always balancing those. I generally write a piano score and then orchestratethings. If I have a clear vision of a song – it is veryeasy to write. If I do not have a clear vision of the song – then I find that Iam not productive.

I thank youfor the interview and wish you all for the future good. The last words in thisinterview I leave you.

Interview with Anima Virus

To start you can give me something about you and tell your artistic development? Since when do you actually like music and is the current line-up?
I ve started to play guitar and to sing since 1987. I was a teenager very charmed by the rock music an sci-fi.. Me and Luca (bass) are playing together since 1994, Deneb joined us in 2008.

Is there such a thing as a fundamental idea which hides itself behind Anima Virus?
Search the truth about the human’s history and spread it.

How, where and when it came to the founding of Anima Virus?
Why did you name the band decided Anima Virus? Puts you behind for a deeper meaning?
The name of the project was born by the way of a mix of wordplay and meanings which often are coincident in different languages, too and having like etymological basis some terms of the ancient latin and grecian languages. The term “anima”means Human spirit, awareness of the man which united to the term “virus”(venefica substance and evil essence) create a broad meaning about the humanity reflextions and its actual condition. I think that humanity has lived and is living its own destructive evolution owing to its own action on this planet like a virus. Its a name which includes a reflection about the distress and extreme disquietude of the single “virus”-man, who understand its own condition, nature and corrupt world around himself.

What is even a song with you? Is there a person who writes the songs or the songs are in the common interaction?
No, actually every songs is composed by myself in all its parts.

What for you was the first major production or were there earlier publications of you? Do you yourself feel that the album with her your own musical boundaries are redefined and exceeded you?
“End of the Eden”is the first Anima Virus official album. It Is produced by Decadance Records. This album is the core of Anima Virus music at the highest level and represent the most important work of ten years. I’m very glad to know that the label is a good support and it respects my “modus operandi”. But I’m sure to surpass myself in the future works… This album is the first stage of an enormous font.

How was it to collaborate with label? Have there been earlier contacts with the label?
Yes, but the label develops most of all musical promotion on zines and internet.

Will there be an album tour?
Maybe in the next months will be out the dates in Europe.

How many publications there has been from you?
“End of the Eden” is the first official publication but in the past years I have produced other works without a label (demos) : Anima Virus (Ep-2003) – Blood from Heaven (minicd-2005) – Adam (Ep-2007).

Is there a song on the album, especially of you at heart? If yes, what and why?
No, every song of this album is special for me.

In addition there are projects which it operates?
No.

How is this publication for your fans here? What reaction there was from the (scene – Specialist) Press?
The reaction is great and honours me.Often people (press and fans) say that my pieces are goth-hits completely unfashionable.

How long have you at the completion of the latest CD worked?
About four years.

Where was recorded and produced?
Was recorded and produced at my personal home studio and at Ghostrack Studio in Rome.
And was finalized at 4cn-studios by Tim Schuldt in Germany.

To get in the production of someone behind the controls supported, or was all alone in your hands?
The creativity, the concepts, and the style are all of mine.

What requirements must provide it personally to a good song?
A good song is a magical emotion. Is a fusion of powerful rhythm, originality, surreal atmospheres.

When her new songs composed, as it requires a certain inner mood or a special atmosphere?
More than other I require the solitude and the silence to compose. I don’t care if out it’s rainy, cloudy, sunny or else.

What draws her themes in your lyrics and what to let you in the lyrics inspire?
The grecian literature, archaeology, anthropology and philosophy are my great passions. At the end I think of the time which goes on relentlessly. I believe that we’re living in a corrupt world which represents the creation of ourselves and that we re surviving in this whirlwind of emotions. This is my deeper inspiration.

How important are you your texts? Take it in the music of Anima Virus a big place, or you see the texts ore than accessory to the music?
All is architecture in my songs. In some tracks the lyrics are the lead of composition and in others the music. I think that the balance it’s fundamental.

How satisfied are you with the results achieved so far and what would you change if it could turn back time?
I ve composed these 14 tracks in much time. When my albums are out finally, it means that I’m fully satisfied!

What was for any of you ever had the key experience even want to make music?
For example to understand gradually the past years I’m not so far by the musical-myths of my adolescence…

What it feels like is important in today’s (Gothic) music landscape image and the visual appearance of a band?Anima Virus comply with any clothes properly?
(Lol) Never. I have my ideas, and I don’t care about this form of plastic “fashion”…

Whom do you see as the typical audience? There is a certain audience that her address with your music want?
Yes there is. In my music there is powerful sounds and groove, originality, dark emotions…
And are things wanted by several souls.

There is “the difference” between the German public and other audiences abroad?
I don’t know exactly, but I think there are few differences…

Is there a standard drawer for the music of Anima Virus?
It describes how people your music that you never have heard?

How important is it for Anima Virus (musical) success?
It’s quite important. But the success is a concept to argue from different points of view.

What can you tell us about the activities of live Anima Virus report? It often gets the opportunity to play live?
It’s no easy for us at the moment to play in different clubs immediately. But we work to define some good dates in Europe.

How can you get a gig Anima Virus imagine? What is it with you on the stage from?

It is also important for Anima Virus on the Internet to be represented?
Yes. Internet is the better way to spread the band name. It’s the first stage for good promotional work.

What do you want to in the near future (musically) with Anima Virus achieve?
To have much more opportunities to change the point of view in the scene.

What difficulties have you as a band currently the most to fight? Anima Virus or running everything as it should be run?
The first thing to do is to improve my musical experience and then to overreach and to mediate it in the music panorama.

In which country would you like to go on tour?
U.S.A. and Japan

Which country was the most impressing for you??
I think U.S.A. because there are broad opportunities inside of the rock biz.

What was the most beautiful and unusual gift fan?
None.

What would you never do for money?
I don’t know…. Maybe only work with passion for my professional qualities.

If you have one wish for free, what would you want?
To change the bad way of life in this shit world.

What would you take with you on a desert island?
My acoustic guitar and my girlfriend.

I thank you for the interview and wish you all for the future good. The last words in this interview I leave you.
Thanks for the support. Continue to listening us!
